Problems at the Chattooga County Courthouse on Election Night with the election totals coming and confusion seeming to be the rule of the night have some in Chattooga County calling for an election board, an idea Chattooga County voters have approved but has never been implemented in the county.

The Summerville News is calling for just such a board on their editorial page today.  Also AM 1180 Chattooga County Radio has spoke with several candidates in the last election who believe the time has come for an election board, as well as leading members in both political parties in the county.

Judge Jon Payne, election superentindent in Chattooga County, told AM 1180 Chattooga County Radio last week that he has taken steps to address the problems the county faced on election night.  Judge Payne did say that he was attempting to save some money for the county and that lead to part of the problems.  AM 1180 Chattooga County Radio will be talking with Judge Payne over the next several days and will bring you the interview in its entirety on our NEWSMAKERS program.
