The Republican and Democratic primary elections will be held next Tuesday across the state of Georgia with a ballot full of important races including Governor and Lt. Governor, but the outlook for voter turnout is not high.

Locally candidates for School Board positions in Chattooga County are concerned that voters may not be aware of the primary election next week, thinking that they will only be voting in November.  In fact all three contested school board races will be decided in next weeks primary election.  The three seats open on the school board in Chattooga County are all up for grabs in the Democratic Primary.

Voters who choose a Republican ballot will determine who will represent Chattooga, Walker, Dade and a portion of Catoosa County at the state capital.  Incumbent Republican State Senator Jeff Mullis is facing opposition from Jim Pope a retired Walker County resident and Ringgold businessman Jeremy Jones.  There is no Democratic challenger in this year’s senate race for the 53rd District which means whoever wins the Republican Primary will be the next state senator.

Voters will go to the polls next Tuesday, July 20th.  Chattooga County Election Supt. Judge Jon Payne told AM 1180 that all normal polling places will be open next week from 7 AM until 7 PM.  AM 1180 will have complete election coverage online and on the air next Tuesday.
