On Wednesday night, the Cherokee County Narcotics Unit arrested two individuals at the Leesburg Lodge Motel, on charges of Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance and Attempted Unlawful Distribution of a Controlled Substance (Ecstasy). Officers recovered more than 100 pills at the scene, with a combined street value of over $3,100.00 – the pills were green, yellow, blue and orange in color, and were in the shape of Smurfs and Simpson cartoon characters.   This is the first time pills of this description have been seen in the area, however the sametype drugs have surfaced recently in neighboring Chattooga County, Georgia. Local authorities are concerned due to the fact that pills of this sort could be very enticing to younger people, including children – and they could also be easily mistaken for candy, or even children’s vitamins. Also recovered was over $7,000 in cash. One of the subjects taken into custody has been identified as Jason Charles Orr, age 28 of Gadsden; the other suspect has yet to be identified, and is described as a black male in his late twenties or early thirties – he is also thought to be from the Gadsden area. Cherokee County Sheriff’s Department Investigator and Public Information Officer Mark Hicks, urges anyone with any information on these type drugs, to immediately contact the Narcotics Unit at (256) 927-5646 – he also encourages parents, teachers and caregivers to be vigilant in regard to these drugs, as they pose a tremendous danger to children.
