If you are used to using your cell phone while driving you may want to get in the habit of putting it away when you buckle up. Cell phone usage by drivers has been proven to cause costly accidents, now it will cause costly fines. Senate bill 360 and House Bill 23, which both deal with cellular usage behind the wheel, took effect on July 1st and give officers the right to ticket you for fiddling with your phone. Senate Bill 360 bans texting while driving for adult drivers and House Bill 23 bans all cell phone usage for teen drivers. Both of these new laws carry fines of $150 and one point added to your driving record. These new laws are designed to reduce distracted driving. 25 states already ban texting for all drivers and 25 states also ban all cell phone usage for teen drivers .Floyd County police issued their first ticket on Tuesday to a Cartersville man for texting while driving.
