The numbers for the 2010 U.S. Census are beginning to trickle in and experts say that they are showing a population decrease over the past year in Chattooga County.  The number is rather low, around a 1% population drop from 2008-2009.  However, since the last census in the year 2000 Chattooga’s population has grown by 4.5% according to the estimate.

State Representative Barbara Massey Reece says that is very important for Northwest Georgia to get an accurate count in this years census.  That’s because a new Congressional seat may be created.  Reece told the Rome News Tribune this week that many would like to see Northwest Georgia get it’s own Congressional Seat back in the U.S. House of Representatives, much like the old 7th Congressional District.
