A Centre Alabama man, 28 year old James Brent Morgan, was arrested for aggravated assault on police officers, DUI and a slew of traffic charges after a chase that began on the Rockmart Highway and ended in the Wilkerson Rd. area of west Rome.
Floyd County police were initially called to a suspicious vehicle in the area of Hwy 101 and Pleasant Valley Rd. When Officer Jeramy Penny tried to stop the vehicle, it sped off and flew into Rome at speeds well above 70 miles per hour. A Rome officer was out of his vehicle trying to lay down stop sticks on Turner McCall when the offender swerved at the officers patrol unit.
The sticks did deflate two of the tires on one side of the small pick up truck but the driver continued into west Rome until he was finally apprehended. Morgan also alleged tried to kick his way out of the patrol vehicle after he was placed under arrest, causing minor damage to the inside of the police cruiser.
