A Centre man – 33 year old Jesse Carlos Cochran – was recently taken into custody by Etowah County Sheriff’s Deputies Jon Works and Stephen Hooks, on grand jury indictments, of 1st and 2nd Degree Rape.
Cochran had moved to the area from Virginia in March of this year – and had only been here for two weeks when DHR received a call from a teacher at the victim’s school.
Reportedly, the victim, who is a female under the age of 16, had confided in another student that she had been molested on several occasions by Cochran.
The student reported the information to a teacher who immediately contacted DHR; following an investigation by DHR and Sheriff’s Office Investigator Mary Waters Cochran was initially placed under arrest on March 26th, charged with one count of Rape 2nd Degree.
After evidence was presented to the grand jury – there were three indictments returned – charging Cochran with two counts of Rape 2nd Degree and one count of Rape 1st Degree.
After being arrested on these indictments by Etowah County authorities Cochran was taken to the DeKalb County Detention Center where he remains on $100,000 total bond at this time.
He was apprehended at a residence on Norton Lane in the Ball Play community on May 21st.
Cochran possibly faces additional charges stemming from incidents allegedly occurring in the State of Virginia
