A Cherokee County man charged in the 2005 slaying of 56 year old Centre resident Alan Lane Scott has been sentenced to life in prison. The altercation which led to the shooting reportedly took place while Scott was posting a No Trespassing sign at a rental house he owned in Centre. The sign was seemingly being put into place in response to threats that 51 year old Tol Shelby Shropshire had allegedly made against the couple who lived there. After the shooting a helicopter was called in to transport Scott to Erlanger Medical Center in Chattanooga, however he died while en route. Police recovered a 9mm handgun near the scene, following the incident. On Wednesday, Circuit Judge Randall Cole sentenced Shropshire to life in prison. District Attorney Mike O’Dell prosecuted that case.
