Republican leaders in the Georgia Senate are pushing through the Governor’s plan to redo the HOPE scholarship.  State Senator Jason Carter (D – Atlanta) said, "They’re going so fast because they don’t want scrutiny of the numbers."  Carter and other Senate Democrats are trying to slow down the rush to reform the HOPE scholarship which will cut the full scholarship from all but the top 3% of students in the program, according to the minority leaders.
Local legislators are split along party lines about the changes to HOPE. Republican State Senator Jeff Mullis (R-Chickamauga)  last week was praising the overhaul of the HOPE scholarship, whild State Representative Barbara Massey Reece (D-Menlo) opposes the current plan that passed the Georgia House this week.
