Chattooga County is no longer the only "Tier One" county in Northwest Georgia.  Last week the state Department of Community Affairs added Dade County to their list of "Tier One" counties.  The designation allows for added tax credits for industry that locates in counties that are affected by a high rate of unemployment and poverty.

After the announcement in 2008 that Shaw Industries would be closing their plant in Trenton, Dade County lost over 400 jobs.  Currently in Dade County the Board of Education is the county’s largest employer.

The list for 2011 shows Catoosa County ranked in Tier 3, Walker County in Tier 2, Dade County Tier 1 and Chattooga County in Tier 1.
