Chattooga County Animal Control Officer Aubrey "Smitty" Smith told AM 1180 that the county’s animal shelter is filled just about to capacity.  Smith said that he has picked up a large number of dogs over the past several weeks pushing the shelter to it’s maximum limit.

Smith said that over 22 dogs were picked up last week and just yesterday he picked up 6 puppies and a mother dog.  The Chattooga County Animal Advocates are doing what they can to help out.  They were able to get 10 dogs out of the shelter over the weekend to ease some of the over-crowding.

In the upcoming days AM 1180 will have information on how you can help the over-crowding problem at Chattooga County’s Animal Shelter.  If you would like to adopt an animal from the shelter give them a call at 706-857-0679
