Chattooga County Commissioner Jason Winters is increasing the amount that local fire departments receive from the county in the amount of $500 for 2010. Winters said that with the increase in funds from the county, area fire departments have been sent a list of qualifications that they must meet in order to receive the funds.
Winters said that the list of items included things like hose tests and equipment tests to be sure that the fire department’s equipment is in good working order. Winters said that in the event a fire department did not meet the qualifications the money that would have went to that department will be divided among the county’s other fire departments.
At this time there are 11 rural fire departments that serve Chattooga County residents.
