The Chattooga Indians Boy’s Basketball team earned a hard-fought 80-67 victory in the second round of the Region 7-AA tournament at Georgia Highlands in a game heard on AM 1180 and www.chattoogainfo.com last night.

Rashad Ramsey scored 18 points, Nathan Schuster had 17 and Spencer London added 16 for the Indians (17-6), who continuously came up with big buckets whenever Model made a charge.

The Indians will now head to the semifinals to face Rockmart on Monday afternoon at 4 p.m. They are also now assured of a berth in next week’s state tournament.

“Tonight’s win was the big one. It’s the one that buys you that ticket to the big dance,” said Chattooga coach Lamar Turner. “We’re happy to be moving on.”

.Facing a feisty Model team, the No. 2-seeded Indians found themselves trailing 24-22 early in the second quarter after the Devils had reeled off a 17-4 run. They outscored the Devils 23-7 over the final six minutes of the second quarter and carried a 45-31 lead to the locker room.

“They have an excellent team, and they are very well-coached,” said Turner. “We knew they weren’t going to roll over. But we were able to hit big shots whenever they made a run.”
