County Commissioners across Northwest Georgia are facing the tough decision of rasing the millage rate.  Walker County Commissioner Bebe Heiskle held hearings on Friday of last week about raising her county’s millage rate to make up a $8 million budget shortfall.  Commissioners in Catoosa County have also signaled that they will be raising the millage rate in their county.

Chattooga County Commissioner Jason Winters told AM 1180 on Friday that the decision about the millage rate will be coming in the next several days and that if the millage rate is raised there will be three hearings within ten days for residents to express their views.  Chattooga County, like most other counties across the state is facing declining revenues and like the Chattooga County Board of Education, must have a balanced budget.  Winters has indicated that more spending cuts are in the future as well to help make up the budget shortfall.
