Chattooga County was by-passed in the latest round of grant money awarded. The City of Summerville and the Chattooga County Water District were both left off the list of the latest round of Community Development Block Grants awarded by Governor Sonny Perdue.
The Chattooga County Water District had applied for the grants to continue the water project on State Line Road at Cloudland and also for extension of the water project at Holland. Commissioner Jason Winters said that revisions to the grant will be made and submitted again to hopefully get in on the next round of funding.
The CDGB grants awarded in Georgia are federal dollars sent to the state through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. The Governor’s office announced the grants last Friday.
While not one project in Chattooga County received any of the $37 million allotted to the state of Georgia, Rome got $300,000 for housing improvements, Cartersville got $300,000 for housing improvements and Chickamauga received $500,000 for sewage improvements.
