The American Lung Association recently released it’s annual report on air quality. Many area’s of Northwest Georgia received poor grades on their air quality. In fact in our area, Rome and Floyd County got a poor rating and was in fact rated the 18th in the nation for poor air quality.
Hamilton County and Chattanooga, Tennessee rated an "F". Chattooga County faired much better with an air quality rating of "B" according to the American Lung Association.
Sources say that Rome’s poor air quality is linked to Plant Hammond, a coal-powered utility plant owned by Georgia Power.
