There was good news to report from the Georgia Department of Labor for Chattooga County for the month of July.  The Labor Commissioner’s office said that there were 4 fewer jobless claims in Chattooga County from June to July.  All other counties in Northwest Georgia saw an increase in new jobless claims for the month of July. The labor commissioner’s office did say that layoffs appear to be slowing.  In fact several area manufacturers have been calling some people back to work.  Mt. Vernon Mills along with Shaw Industries and Roper Corporation have all called some workers back to work over the past several weeks.
