The Chattooga River is expected to crest sometime this afternoon at 15.5 feet according to the latest information from the National Weather Service. This morning at 7 AM the Chattooga River in Summerville had reached flood stage at 14 feet.
Chattooga County Commissioner Jason Winters said that it will take the rest of the day today and into tommorow for county workers to clean up debris and trees that were downed during the storms of last night.
The Town of Trion delayed opening their offices this morning until 10 AM due to a flooded parking lot and the Department of Family and Children Services delayed opening until 10 as well. Both local school systems also had a later than normal starting time – a two hour delay – due to the flooded roads and debris on the roads throughout the county.
