Chattooga County saw its unemployment rate drop slightly in May, but it still remains over 13%. According to the latest numbers released from the Georgia Department of Labor, Chattooga County’s unemployment rate stands at 13% down from 13.2% in April. The figure represents those who are getting unemployment benefits and actively seeking work. It doesn’t count those who may have had benefits that have run out and those who have given up on finding a job. In the surrounding area Floyd County saw an increase in unemployment from 10% to 10.4%. Bartow County has a rate of 11.5% and Gordon County stands at 12.3%. Overall in the Coosa Valley Area the rate was 10.6% for the month of May.
