A Chattooga County woman who sued Web site operator Teresa Watson of Rome for libel won a default judgment in Floyd County Superior Court on Wednesday.
The lawsuit revolves around a December 2007 post on the Web site by one of its users that alleged immoral activity by Summerville resident Stephanie Dennis. Dennis sued Watson, the owner of the Web site, for libel.
According to Wednesday’s order, Judge Walter J. Matthews ruled to strike Watson’s pleadings in the case, and a judgment by default was entered in favor of Dennis.
A jury will determine possible damages. The order stated that Watson did not appear for a Jan. 27 hearing date as well as a hearing Wednesday in front of Matthews.
