More than 100 attendees braved the weather to attend the Chattooga County Young Farmers Banquet held at the Chattooga County Agricultural Center on Saturday, January 11th. The annual banquet recognized award winners and provided fellowship for the organization’s members.

Stan and Kim Reynolds were recognized as Outstanding Members for their efforts and involvement in the chapter. Randy and Julie Brinkley were named Farm Family and Frank Smith was recognized as Retiring President.

Garrett Hurley was recognized as the North Region Young Producer Winner for his involvement in agriculture. He competes on the state level and the winner will be announced later this month at the Georgia Young Farmer Association Convention at Jekyll Island.

Nancy Edwards, Chattooga High School Career Technical Agriculture Education Director, assisted in the installation of the officers for 2020. The officer team includes Michael Bridges, President; Lee Massey, Vice President; Randy Brinkley, Secretary-Treasurer; Garrett Hurley, Public Relations and Frank Smith, Past President.

The chapter also recognized past presidents of the organization. Twenty-seven past presidents of the chapter were in attendance as well as the families of Ralph Henton and Dorman Gilreath who served the organization in the 80s and have since passed away.

Jayme Dawson, Georgia Young Farmers Association State Secretary spoke to the crowd about the organization and his involvement on the state level and introduced guest speaker, Representative Eddie Lumdsen. Lumdsen spoke the chapter about his role in the General Assembly.

The Chattooga County Young Farmers begin in 1978 under the direction of Kennith Moseley, Advisor. It is the adult agriculture education component of the Chattooga County Schools Agriculture Education Program. Chattooga County is one of 55 county young farmer chapters in Georgia. The local chapter conducts educational programs on topics ranging from ag technologies to legislative issues affecting agriculture. Membership is open to anyone who is interested in agriculture.
