Chattooga County saw a slight drop in the unemployment rate according to numbers released this week by the Georgia Department of Labor.  The unemployment rate for the month of August was 11.4% – down from 11.9% in July. 

Neighboring Floyd County saw an increase in the unemployment rate from 11% to 11.4%.  Overall the entire Northwest Georgia Region saw an increase in the unemployment rate.

State Labor Commissioner Mark Butler said that most of the increases were because of layoffs in manufacturing, administrative and support services, and public administration.

Other Northwest Georgia Counties Unemployment Rate for August:

Walker – 9.2%

Catoosa – 8.5%

Whitfield – 12.2%

Gordon – 11.5%
