Numbers were released yesterday that show the unemployment rate in Chattooga County dropping significantly during the month of June.
While this is good news for Chattooga County, the trend state-wide is headed up for those who are out of work. State Labor Commissioner Michael Thurmond attributes the higher unemployment rates state wide to the increased cost of doing business by employers which has forced many of them to cut back on jobs. Also the economic downturn has caused a loss of business for many employers.
In Chattooga County there were 36 fewer people seeking unemployment in June than there was in May.
