The Leesburg, Centre and Sand Rock Fire Departments responded to a mobile home fire during the early morning hours of Sunday, which claimed the life of one person. That blaze occurred at a residence located on County Road 377 in Leesburg, at around 4:30am, with Cherokee County Sheriff’s Department Investigators, the Cherokee County Coroner’s Office, and agents with the Alabama State Fire Marshal’s Office being called-in.

At this time it’s unclear as to what the exact circumstances are surrounding the incident, however no foul play is suspected, and initial reports are that the fire may have been the result of a faulty space heater inside the home.

The body has been sent to the state crime lab in Hunstville for an autopsy.
