Trion Police Chief Chad Spraggins told AM 1180 Chattooga County radio this morning that residents of the Park Avenue Apartments in Trion will not be allowed to return to their homes this morning even though flood waters have receded in front of the apartments.
The chief said that there was still water at the back of the apartments along with thick mud and flood debris. The apartments will need to be checked for safety before residents are allowed to return. Chief Spraggins said that he would let AM 1180 Chattooga County Radio know when residents could return.
The police chief also stated that the police department received no major damage from the flood waters, however the town hall did receive some flooding damage. Worst damaged was the public works area of the town hall complex in Trion.
GEMA officials are in Chattooga County today helping local officials assess the situation.
