A video of an Alabama woman dragging her child by a monkey backpack leash through the Verizon Wireless Store on Broad Street in Rome is becoming one of the most talked about videos in the country.  The incident actually occurred in late April.  The video was posted on youtube.com on August the 1^st.    

According to the original reports, Melissa Means was arrested and charged with felony first-degree cruelty to children.  Means told police that she suffers from lupus and pneumonia and could not carry the child, who was refusing to walk.   

Means also allegedly said her son liked being “pulled around by his monkey.”  Police say the child had a red bruise mark on the left side of his neck from the backpack strap.  DEFACS was notified of the incident and the child was later released to his grandmother.
