Chattooga High School Senior Football player Nic Perry earned the honor of being named the Rome News-Tribune’s Defensive Player of the Week this week. Perry, a defensive back, claims the RN-T’s defensive award after he picked off two passes and recovered a fumble during Chattooga’s 30-7 win over Darlington. He ended up with 27 total return yards on the two picks-19 on the first, and eight on the second. His tremendous defensive skills helped shut down Darlington and limited them to only one touchdown late in the fourth quarter.
“He played really good and he played hard,” said Chattooga coach John Starr. “The safety is kind of like the quarterback, he oversees the whole defense and makes sure everything is lined up right. He did that Friday night. That was really big for us.”
With Perry leading the way, the Indians’ secondary allowed Darlington to complete just 7-of-20 passes for 36 yards.
Chattooga will face Allatoona this Friday night on the road.
