This past weekend Chattooga High School wrestlers participated in the State wrestling tournament. Several CHS wrestlers took high honors at the state tournament and are to be congratulated. Below is a report from coach Clay Livingston on the accomplishments of the CHS team.
JJ Blankenship – Freshman – took 6th in the 103 lb weight class, he finished the year with a record of 46 and 9
Cody Siffles – Senior – took 4th in the 135 lb weight class, he finished the year at 18 and 2, Cody did not become eligible until January, thanks to all that helped him make this happen
Austin Burdick – Senior – finished 4th in the 152 lb weight class, he finished at 52 and 6, Austin wrestled most of the year with a broken nose and hurt shoulder. He woke up Friday morning to find his knee swollen up to the size of a softball, he still went out and wrestled his heart out for 4 more matches. Austin beat the eventual state champ two weeks ago at the area tournament, unfortunately he did not get to wrestle this kid for the title on saturday.
Brandon Siffles -Sophomore – went 2 and 2 at state, missing placement by one match. He wrestled his heart out, he just was not at his best. Both of his losses came to kids who placed top 6, one of which was the eventual state champion. He finished the year with a 47 and 3 record with 42 pins which breaks the team record for pins in a season.
Isiah Bagley -Senior – lost his opening match in heartbreaking fashion and was eliminated from the tournament. First round losers were out because of time constraints due to the fact that our sectional qualifying tournament was cancelled due to weather. Isiah still had a tremendous season with a record of 29 and 13. Many of those losses were when he was wreslting in the 160 lb weight class which gave our team the best chance to be successful. He wrestled in the 145 lb weight class at area and state and was the runner up in our area.
Congratulations on a job well done by coach Livingston, all wrestlers and these athletes.
