Due to a difference between the beer and wine ordinances between the City of Summerville and Chattooga County, stores inside the city limits of Summerville that sold alcohol to minors during a sting conducted by the Chattooga County Sheriff’s Department already have their beer license back, while stores in the county will have to wait until a hearing is held next Monday by the Chattooga County Malt Beverage Board.
A total of 29 stores were targeted during the sting conducted by the sheriff’s department and 15 stores were found to have violated the law. According to information received by AM 1180 Chattooga County Radio, a college ID without a date of birth was used by the informant for the sheriff’s department to purchase the alcohol.
The Chattooga County Malt Beverage Board will meet next Monday evening at the Chattooga County Civic Center in Summerville at 6 PM. The stores in the county could face a two week suspension of their beer license for the violation.
