Chattooga High School is proud to host an evening with Coach Joe Kines. Coach Kines coached at CHS from 1969 to 1972 before returning to his alma mater, Jacksonville State University, where he served as assistant coach and defensive coordinator through the 1976 season. Coach Kines took a job coaching linebackers at Clemson University in 1977. In 1979 Kines became linebackers coach at the University of Florida under Charley Pell. He coached linebackers at Florida for two years and was promoted to defensive coordinator in 1981. Kines took a coaching job at the University of Alabama in 1985. There he served as defensive coordinator and inside linebackers coach. In 1987 he took a job in the NFL coaching linebackers for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He remained with the Bucs until 1990. In 1991 Kines returned to his college roots and served first as defensive coordinator and then head coach for the Arkansas Razorbacks. In the 1993-1994 season he was assistant head coach and defensive coordinator for the Razorbacks. From Arkansas he moved to Athens, GA where he served as the Georgia Bulldogs defensive coordinator from 1995-1998 and was promoted to assistant head coach in 1999.
Coach Kines will speak at CHS on Thursday, March 17th , at 7pm in the CHS cafeteria. A reception will be held for coaches, players and cheerleaders from the1969-1971 seasons in the CHS Media Center beginning at 5pm. Tickets for Coach Kines’ speaking event are $20 and can be purchased at Chattooga High School. Proceeds from the event will go to the CHS football program.
