AM 1180 Chattooga County Radio began receiving word early Saturday that Chattooga County High School Footbal Coach John Starr had been let go from his job

Allegedly Starr was released after Friday night’s 15-14 defeat by Armuchee High School. This was the first loss the Indians suffered this year. The Indians were ranked number ten in the region.

The Summerville News sports writer Brian Salmon says he talked with CHS Principal Morgan Nugent over the weekend. The principal would not comment much on the decision to release Coach Starr. According to Salmon, the principal says he will release a statement about his decision Monday.

Assistant Principal and Athletic Director Jimmy Lenderman is taking over for the rest of the season. The school system will be interviewing for Starr’s replacement.

Some school board members were approached about this issue Saturday morning. They acted like they did not know about Starr being fired when asked by some locals. Principal Nugent also seemed skiddish to comment until he could prepare a statement for Monday.
