Voters today will decide whether to legalize alcohol sales in the Town of Collinsville. Residents of Collinsville – with a population of 1,644 – can vote on that issue after the Alabama Legislature passed a bill last year (2009) which allows towns in dry counties to vote on the wet /dry issue provided the town’s population is at least 1,000.
Alcohol sales are currently illegal in all parts of Dekalb County – with the exception of the city of Ft Payne, which approved the sale of alcohol in 2004 under a prior legislative act. Based on the population of Collinsville, at least 101 names, were required to be on the petition requesting that the issue be put to a vote; the petition ended up with a total of 136 signatures.
