Earlier this year the Summerville Crim Lab shut it’s doors. A last minute deal in the state legislature provided funding to keep two other crime labs open – one in Columbus and one in Moultrie. However, this week Governor Sonny Perdue axed the money from the state budget that would have kept the two crime labs from closing.
City leaders in Columbus had provided extra money to keep that crime lab open through the month of June. Plans are now underway to close the facility along with the one in Moultrie by the end of the month and transfer employees to other crime labs in the state. The Summerville Crime Lab was closed in April of this year.
