Chattooga County Probate Judge Jon Payne told AM 1180 on Tuesday that with the signing of Senate Bill 308 by Governor Sonny Perdue, the Concealed Weapons Permit Fee will be going up.
To obtain a concealed weapons permit a resident must bring a $40.00 money order made out to the Chattooga County Sheriff’s Department and a photo ID to the Probate Judge’s Office. The Probate Judge’s office will fill out the application that a resident must sign to obtain the permit. Then the resident must go to the sheriff’s department to be fingerprinted. The $40.00 fee covers the cost to the Sheriff’s Department of the GBI Background Check.
After two weeks if the resident’s application is approved they must now bring a $30.00 check, cash or money order to the Probate Judge’s Office to obtain the Concealed Weapons Permit. The fee was raised from $20.00 to $30.00 by the new law.
Residents with questions about the concealed weapons permit can call the Probate Judge’s Office at 706-857-0709.
