Could Swine Flu Strike our Area?
It’s a question on the minds of many area residents of northeast Alabama and northwest Georgia at risk for contracting Swine Flu. At this point, 20 cases have already been reported in the U.S. – New York, California and Texas have reported cases of this strain of flu. There are some things that everyone can do to in an effort to avoid spreading the flu virus – including washing hands frequently with soap and water; avoiding touching your eyes, mouth or nose with your hands; attempt to avoid coming in contact with sick people; and if you’re sick, stay home from work or school and limit your contact with others. Health officials say that we are now near the end of the flu season, and with the warmer weather more people are spending greater amounts of time outdoors in the fresh air, thus diminishing the capacity for passing the flu virus – he also pointed out that Swine Flu can not be transmitted from eating pork or pork products.
