Chattooga County Commissioner Jason Winters said that the weekend storm and tornado that brought so much damage to Chattooga County shows the need of the Code Red emergency alert system. Commissioner Winters announced earlier this year that the county was in the process of implementing the system which would send phone calls and text messages to residents in the event of a storm like the one over the weekend.
Neighboring counties have the system. Cherokee County Alabama has implemented their Code Red alert system and Floyd County issued over 10,000 calls with their Code Red system over the weekend. The system should be up and running in Chattooga County later this year.
