The GBI Crime lab is being closed in Summerville and future plans for the building are for office space, according to reports.  The City of Columbus has reached an agreement with the GBI that will allow that crime lab to stay open until June of this year.  Three crime labs, Columbus, Summerville and Moultrie were all scheduled to close this spring as a result of budget cutting measures by the GBI.

GBI Director Vernon Keenan said that equipment has already been moved out of the labs in Summerville and Moultrie.  There are no plans for keeping the Cloumbus crime lab open past June 30th of this year.
