A DeKalb County, Alabama woman was sentenced yesterday for the death of her 5 week old infant son. Lindsey Jackson, a 25-year-old mother of three, received a 20-year sentence after pleading guilty to a lesser charge of manslaughter. She was indicted on capital murder charges more than a year ago. If convicted of capital murder, she could have faced the death penalty. She originally pleaded not guilty. Prosecutors say that Jackson struck her infant child causing the death. Jackson’s attorneys blamed depression, poverty and ignorance but the judge in the trial upheld the conviction and sentenced the woman to 20 years in prison.
She will serve her sentence at the Julia Tutwiler Prison for Women in Wetumpka.
