Walker County Sheriff Steve Wilson on Monday released a preliminary description of the skeletal remains found in an area below Rock City, Lookout Mountain, on April 22.
According to forensic anthropologist Dr. Maria Teresa Tersigni-Tarrant, the remains are those of a Caucasian male between 5 feet 7 inches and 6 feet 1 inch tall, and between 30-39 years of age.
Dr. Tersigni-Tarrant estimates the decomposing remains were at the discovery site beginning late winter to early fall 2008.
Missing persons files from the tri-state area have been referenced to the skeletal remains with no link established thus far, Wilson said.
“We are still working on making an identification and hopefully, that will be done very soon,” he said.
