In Trion, 180 families were displaced by the flood over the weekend. Of these families, 65 have children in the Trion City School System. These families are in temporary housing. Most of the families lived in rental houses. They have lost everything they owned.
We have set up a central headquarters to help supply the basic needs for these families. It is stationed at the Trion Elementary School. Two nights ago, Mary Myers purchased over $350 in underwear and socks. By 10:00 am the next morning, all of these were gone. Mary has returned to buy more underwear and socks. I had one elementary teacher tell me two children in her class got the underwear and clothes and were taken to the gym to take a shower, first bath since Saturday.
We appreciate all of you who have brought in food, clothes, and other items. We also appreciate all the ones who have volunteered their time and have helped bag food and sort clothes by sizes. This is a huge undertaking and will require many people. So please feel free to come to the school to help. Your assistance is much needed and welcome.
Please forward this email to all your friends and family. We are in need of more items and volunteers.
