Chattooga County Probate Court Judge Jon Payne, who also serves as the Chattooga County Elections Superintendent, told AM 1180 that early voting for the upcoming SPLOST referenedum for education in Chattooga County will begin on October 17.

Voters will be going to the polls to decide if a one cent sales tax will continue to support education in Chattooga County.  The tax has been in place for a number of years making the county’s current sales tax rate 7%.

Judge Payne said that the Registrar’s Office would be open for early and absentee voting from 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM, Monday – Friday beginning October 17 and going through November 4.  Election Day will be Tuesday, November 8.

Voters that wish to get an absentee ballot for municipal elections in Menlo, Summerville or Trion should go by City Hall in the municipality in which they are registerd to vote.  Municipal Elections will be held on November 8 as well.
