Chattooga County voters will go to the polls on Tuesday, November 8 for a vote on the Education Special Local Option Sales Tax. The sales tax rate in Chattooga County has been 7% for around 15 years and if the measure passes it would continue at the 7% rate. 1% would be returned to Chattooga County’s two school systems – Chattooga County Schools and Trion City Schools.
The Chattooga County School system has plans to build a new high school building. The current Chattooga High School building has serious issues including outdated electrical systems and heating and cooling problems. Also, there is a problem with sewage backing up drains at the high school
The Trion City School system plans to use money from the continuation of the ESPLOST to build a new gymnasium that would be used for the High School.
Chattooga County voters wil only have the ESPLOST measure on the ballot when they go to the polls Tuesday. All of Chattooga County’s precincts will be open on Tuesday from 7 AM until 7 PM. AM 1180 will have results from the Chattooga County Courthouse on Tuesday evening as soon as they are available.
