Police were called out shortly after midnight Monday to break up a fight, involving more than two dozen people, mostly teens and young adults, that erupted because of threats made on Facebook.

According to LaFayette Police Department reports:

The fight apparently erupted from threats made earlier on Facebook. Details about those threats were not immediately available.

LaFayette resident Miranda Caheely called 911 warning law enforcement officials of a large fight occurring in front of her property on Sleepy Hollow Road shortly after 12:30 a.m. Officers encountered “25-30 black and white males and females.” When officers arrived several people tried to flee in their vehicles but were stopped.

A search of the vehicles did not produce any weapons. No one was arrested. Officers could not determine who instigated the fight. Names were taken of everyone present. As of Wednesday afternoon no one had pressed for charges.

Sgt. Wesley Steele warned the teens and young adults that if this type of offense continued everyone would be arrested on a misdemeanor charge of fighting.
