An investigation into an auto accident that claimed the life of a 51 year old Floyd County woman could take another three to four months, according to officials with the Georgia State Patrol.

The GSP continues to work on reconstructing the wreck – which involved a Floyd County Police Officer and a private citizen.

Johnette Regina Elkins was pulling out of a business driveway at 2610 Shorter Avenue, when her vehicle was struck by PFC. Mark Tanner – who was traveling west on Georgia 20. According to the initial GSP report released August 22nd, Elkins was traveling south from a private drive and was attempting to enter the highway from the north shoulder, when she pulled in front of Tanner, and her 1994 Saturn was struck by the police cruiser.

The initial report did not indicate if Tanner was traveling above the 45 mph posted speed limit or if his emergency lights or siren were on.

The investigation is being conducted by the Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team, working out of Calhoun, Georgia.

Officials say no further information is available at this time.
