According to files obtained by a local media outlet (RomeNewswire) through an open records request, Floyd County Commissioner Garry Fricks was in fact reimbursed by Floyd County for mileage driven during the time his license was suspended. Fricks was charged with a litany of offenses last week in Gordon County. Fricks has repeatedly told local media that he was only aware of his license suspension for the last few months. However, according to Susan Sports, Public Information Officer with the Department of Motor vehicles, even if a person had renewed their license in 2001, at that time it would have only been valid for a period of four years. Given that information, Fricks would have needed to renew his license in 2005 at the very latest and at that time he would’ve been made aware of the fact that his license was suspended. There has been no comment from the Floyd County Attorney’s office.
