A Floyd County man is in jail this morning on charges of stabbing his ex-wife to death.
According to reports, 40 year old Barry Edward Smith of a Garden Lakes address was charged with killing his 70 year old ex-wife, Eva Joy Rogers. Smith was booked into the Floyd County Jail in the early hours of Sunday morning after police found Rogers dead at the home she and Smith once shared.
Smith has a history of criminal activity. Smith was sentenced to five years in prison after he was convicted of obstructing a law enforcement officer in September 2002. He was released on parole in April 2007.
The Georgia Department of Corrections Web site also lists a prison record for Smith that dates back to 1985.
The list indicates he served time for convictions on charges of first-degree forgery, aggravated assault and driving while under the influence.
