The Rome-Floyd Metro Task force agents scored big Tuesday after a concerned citizen called in a tip that a large stand of potential marijuana may be growing off Highway 27 South near the industrial park.

According to commander Joey Jacobs with the task force, Metro Investigator Ed Cox followed up on a lead provided by a concerned citizen and located the stand of 71 plants in a wooded area adjacent to the industrial park.

Agents responded to the area along with officers from the Rome Police Department and took the plants, some as tall as four feet, into custody where they will be destroyed.

Jacobs said the plants appeared to be very healthy and well cared for.

Investigators say the 71 plants had a street value of nearly $142,000.

No arrests have been made and the investigation is ongoing.
