An early Sunday evening traffic stop in West Rome led Rome Police to discover that the SUV they had was stolen.

The initial traffic stop occurred around 6:00 PM on Shorter Ave. at Cherry St. According to Rome Police Officer Glen Michaels, he got behind the vehicle going Eastbound on Shorter Ave. and realized that there was no tag displayed. After pulling the vehicle over, Michaels made contact with the driver, Margaret Thomas, 41, of a Timberlane Terrace address. Thomas told Michaels that she had borrowed the vehicle from family members a few days ago. After further investigation, Michaels discoveredby running the VIN number that the vehicle had been reported stolen earlier Sunday.

Thomas was arrested andtaken to the Floyd County Jail where she was charged with Theft by Receiving and Driving with no tag.
