Beginning Tuesday, Sept. 1, Floyd Medical Center will begin offering patients angioplasty and stent procedures, heart care procedures they’ve been able to diagnose a need for before, but never been able to perform.

“We’re very fortunate to be able to offer this to our community,” said Mary Jane Hamilton, clinical coordinator for the new cath lab at FMC.

The hospital had a reception Thursday afternoon for its workers to get a firsthand look at the newly remodeld area. FMC has had an in-house cath lab for eight years, but officials are excited to be expanding their services.

The new lab includes state of the art equipment, an imaging center, patient recovery areas, a nurses station, and a fully stocked supply closet. Hamilton said anything their heart doctors need will be well within reach.

“We’re very excited and pleased with it,” she said.

In addition to expanding services, the creation of the new lab also expanded the size of the cath lab staff, tripling the number of medical professionals who work there.
