Police were searching Sunday for a suspect who fled from a wreck on Redmond Road, according to Lt. Paul Greene with the Rome Police Department.

Greene said the suspect and a woman were involved in a domestic dispute at the Woodberry Inn and Suites on Martha Berry Boulevard earlier Sunday morning, and the suspect was alleged to have shot at the woman.

Police reported the woman was able to get away, and while the man was chasing after her in a vehicle, he was involved in a wreck.

“That’s apparently when the two separated and she went to the hospital and he fled to South Rome,” Greene said.

Police said they found the handgun used by the suspect in the woods in the 300 block of Cherokee Street and also found shell casings at the Woodberry Inn and Suites.

The woman was treated and released for minor injuries at Redmond Regional Medical Center. Police did not release the name of the suspect or the injured woman.

Lt. Mark Tison with the Rome police said on Sunday night that officers have identified the suspect and would be taking out warrants for his arrest.
